It's not every day that you wake up with love on your mind and hearts on the brain! But such is the effect of Valentine's Day for many, if not most of us.
Well, most of us who aren't working mothers and/or working professionals and/or... working, period.
In fact, I very nearly forgot about it altogether!
Gone are the days when my little boy spent all week in art class at school making a Valentine's Day card, or an "I Love You" project for Mommy. At 15, that's hardly the case anymore! I don't even think he knows what day it is, other than Thursday. sigh...
Even our family used to exchange cards and chocolates with each other. But chocolates are so bad for you,and fattening... aren't they? sigh...
And I recall, as recently as last year (or was it the year before?) that several friends would forward cute "here's a hug, pass it on" valentine's-worthy e-mails. But so far, not-a-one in my in-box. sigh...
And if I were to get any love-mails, before clicking on a link, I'd be sure it was from someone I knew -- so much for secret admirers! it seems something called the Storm Worm is on the prowl, turning V-Day into D-Day by using the romantic holiday as a way in to your computer before making its way to your heart...attack-style! sigh...
OK so today, I did remember that I'd bought my own mother a bottle of her favorite perfume, which I'd put away last week, for today. I also bought her a card. Why not? She sure doesn't have any hope of getting her own valentines from a secret lover, now does she! :)) I gave it to her and she burst into tears. Oh brother, hardly the effect I was after. sigh...
So then I just went right to work and haven't given it two thoughts since. I suspect I'll receive flowers by day's end from a special someone of my own, who happens to be away today.Of course the day's not over yet and/but they haven't arrived... yet.
And just now, I thought of you...and thought I'd send you all a little love, from one of my favorite comic strips, "Love Is..."
